Eastside Baptist Senior Adults

 Birmingham, AL

December News

We at Eastside have had a blessed year and so many things to be thankful for. I want to take this opportunity to thank each senior adult that has participated and attended the functions each month at our monthly meetings. We have had a steady attendance but recent illnesses have kept some of our members from attending. We pray that each one will have a blessed holiday and keep CHRIST in the Christmas season.

Since our thanksgiving luncheon we have visited the Alabama Baptist Children`s Home in Oxford. We visited the home on Dec. 4, 2011ec. 4, 2011

. We had seventeen that made this most joyful trip. We visited the Friendship House and were among a packed house. We had a private meeting with the director, Ted Embrey.  He gave us a brief outline of the functions of the home. He said they had five children in the home at the present. The home was separated into a girls and a boys section. We were then given a tour of the home and it was a lot more than I had expected. It seemed to be a fairly large new home with rooms for all the children.

After the tour we all had refreshments and chatted with the employees / family that run the home. The WMU ladies from area churches acted as hostesses gave us all the sweets and goodies.

During our meeting with Mr. Embry, we told him how our trip had come about and how we spent several months working and planning this visit.   We gave the home many gifts / needs that Eastside had collected. This was a senior project in the beginning but our Eastside family also contributed. We had a pickup truck full of gifts and other items. The Seniors collected about $900.00 of which we purchased the following items:

  1. one 32 inch flat screen TV
  2. one DVD player
  3. six fitted crib sheets
  4. six laundry baskets (on their needs list and used to transport gifts / donations)

We presented Mr. Embry the balance of the monies in gift cards of $443.58 and another from a Sunday school class of $70.00. On the way out of church a member handed me a check for $100.00.

The total for all of Eastside in monies was over $1,000.00. This does not include all the gifts / needs / supplies that were given by each Sunday school class and members of Eastside. DO WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS NEXT CHRISTMAS???

Our next outing is on Dec.10 to Guntersville for the play “TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS”. We have 19 signed up for this dinner and play evening of fun.
